How to change the firefox homepage to the same one as was in Firefox 4?

Is it possible in newer versions of Firefox to have same homepage as there was in Firefox 4 (same as in the screenshot)? If so, how? Thanks in advance for the answer.

You posted here with Firefox/22.0 which is insecure and is no longer supported - please update to the latest Firefox 39.0 version. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

I don't want to use latest version of Firefox because of several reasons (incompatible add-ons, design etc...). However I'd like to know whether is it possible to do what I asked.

That is the built-in home page about:home.

I know how set the homepage. I'm asking what's the URL of homepage about:home in Firefox 4 so I can set the same homepage in newer Mozilla versions. (The about:home homepage in newer versions has too small/narrow search field so I want the same homepage as was about:home in Firefox 4. I know it is a detail but it bothers me.)

Why not set google.com or your local equivalent such as google.co.uk as the homepage. Or one of your home pages. You may open more than one tab as a homepage.

It really is a good idea to update Firefox it will be safer.

Also note the address bar on Firefox may be dragged to make it even wider and works as a search bar. You can even customise it further by dragging everything else on to the bookmarks toolbar for instance and have a bar the width of your screen. Or do similar with the search bar.

I know I could just set google as my homepage but I was just interested whether it is possible to get exactly same page as in Firefox 4 with Mozilla logo (for esthetic reasons). I'm just curious whether it is possible, If it's not I'll settle for normal google. So far I don't know whether it is possible or not.

So far I wasn't able to get results I wanted to with classic theme restorer (for example I didn't find "Firefox 2" icons option plus lots of other details). But I didn't go through all options yet so maybe there's hidden something that would allow it look like I want to.

However my question here is about the homepage from Firefox 4 which is relevant regardless of Firefox version and I'd like to focus on that.

I suspect that change to the about:home search container was made in Firefox 20, when the "search" function there became combined with the URL bar search and the Search bar, and all three started to use the same selected search engine.

Yes, you can override the default CSS file to change the width of the search form / container.

Open this file (typed in the URL bar) chrome://browser/content/abouthome/aboutHome.css in both Firefox 4.0 and your current version and compare the two files and see what differs. This is probably the rule you need to affect that section of about:home.

#searchForm,
#snippets {
  width: 470px;
}

Change the 470px to what is in the old 4.0 version css file.

Then create a userContent.css file (as was mentioned in this thread https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1037833?page=2#answer-696468 and posting for the snippetContainer) to change the size.

Note: If you "hack" the default file inside Firefox, your edit will disappear with the next update. You need to do that via a user file to have it persist after the main file is updated.

I haven't tried this myself, I don't use the about:home page as my homepage, so it doesn't interest me to change that item.)

As an example of using the Stylish extension to change the about:home page, see these Styles I came up with. (rather than doing it via userContent.css) https://userstyles.org/styles/104673/about-home-hide-snippets-and-hide-brand-logo https://userstyles.org/styles/104618/about-home-hide-snippets

In particular, I'm trying to restore Firefox, as nearly as possible, to what I had formerly with and Advanced Search Home Page. I felt I needed to Refresh Firefox as suggested to get it to work better. Now all my tags are gone, which I must remake.

But most importantly I need the Advanced Search feature similar to what Google currently has. Where can I find it. Previously it was in Setup. It's not there now. This was very useful when looking for things.

I've looked carefully through the current setup and there is no "Advanced" search. Why has such a useful tool been removed or put somewhere out of reach of the everyday user?

Hi MozillaFirefoxNewbie, I think your question is different than the original poster's. Firefox doesn't have two built-in home pages, regular and advanced, just the one.

You may previously have been using an extension that replaced the home page. After a reset, your extensions are moved to the desktop inside the Old Firefox Data folder. However, it's a little complicated trying to research what's in there because they tend to be named by their long and often unreadable unique IDs rather than their common names...

For suggestions on how best to mine Old Firefox Data for details of your previous configuration, I suggest starting a new question.
