Firefox thinks I'm located in Poland (I'm actually in the UK) and is sharing this information with other websites, so all the adverts I see eg. on Youtube are in Polish, and when I type a search into the search bar I am redirected to google.pl. This has been happening for a couple of days now, but I've been using Firefox on this computer for years.

I just checked and my IP address's host location is in the UK.

I haven't accessed any Polish sites, and even if I had I clear Cookies first thing whenever I log on to the computer, and that hasn't fixed the problem.

I don't have any proxies or VPNs installed.

My language is set as English (UK) in both Google's and Firefox's settings.

I have tried clicking 'update location' in Google but it is really sure that I'm in Warsaw.

I know it seems trivial, but it is so annoying! I'm wondering a) how to fix it and b) is this a sign of a bigger problem?

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file in the profile folder that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and if present delete cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal in the Firefox profile folder in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:
