This looks like the indexing has got out of sync with the actual Inbox.

This will put the indexing file back in sync with Inbox.

  • Right click on Inbox Folder and select 'properties'
  • click on 'Repair Folder' button
  • click on OK

If emails disappear then it is because they had already gone from Inbox, but the index file was not aware of it.

What could have caused this? What Anti-Virus, Malware, CCleaner etc product(s) do you use? Common causes are the quarantining of the mail file by the anti virus program, or an attempt by such a program to excise one email from the file and not updating the index. I would advise that you do not allow any AV program to scan any Thunderbird folder.
