How long must Firefox be closed so only ONE browser window opens if "show my windows and tabs from last time" is checked.

Sometimes I might have one or two separate firefox browser windows open. I close them both, so only ONE browser is open, with my usual tabs. How long must Firefox be closed so only ONE browser window opens if "show my windows and tabs from last time" is checked, upon re-opening the browser another time.

Thanks,

Also, is there really not an option to set specific tabs to open in Firefox? Really? Reeeeeeeeeeaally?

I'm not sure what you mean by this question. Firefox allows you to set multiple home pages, so that when you start up to your home page, it opens all the listed URLs in separate tabs. On the plus side, easy. On the minus side, every time you launch a new window to your home page (e.g., Ctrl+n), all those tabs open. More info:

If you want a set of URLs to launch ONLY at Firefox startup, you can "hack" the desktop shortcut you use to start Firefox. Here are some examples:

Firefox generally updates your session history file at 15 second intervals. So after closing a window, it may take up to 15 seconds for that change to be recorded in that file, which is the list Firefox uses at startup.

I don't recommend making this interval shorter, as it will cause heavier disk activity throughout your session, but if you currently close Firefox by using the "red X" button, you might have better luck using the Exit command. Either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
  • (menu bar) File > Exit

"Firefox allows you to set multiple home pages" -- @jscher2000 -- THANKS! I was expecting a small text box for me to enter multiple URLs for the specific tabs I wanted Firefox to open each time I clicked on the browser button.

I had no idea I could enter multiple URLs separated by a PIPE "|" in the HOME PAGE field. The fact I can do this makes my original question about how long I need to wait for history file/interval to update no longer valid, but hopefully others will stumble on this question and get an answer, too.

I will now go delete the alias email I spawned just so I could join to ask this question.
