I can't get my messages. TWC said I need to change the email settings. Do I add a new account or change the old one? I don't want to lose old emails.

I got an error message that the RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server pop-server.wi.rr.com responded: no such message. I called TWC and they said I needed to update my PW with TWC Spectrum and that worked to log on to their web site. I now could see all my emails on the TWC web site. But, in Thunderbird, I can only send outgoing email, but not receive incoming. TWC gave me new settings to put in to the Thunderbird Account configuration wizard. I was going to try it, but I don't want to have to set up a new email account. Why can't I just update the old one? I'm afraid there will be a conflict between the two accounts, and I won't be able to access them both.

Under the circumstances, it would probably be OK to tweak the existing account settings. It's the same account, same address, yes?

My own preference would be to set up a new instance of the account in Thunderbird. The only "conflict" I can think of is that if both accounts use POP with the default settings, you could get a "first come, first served" situation where some messages appear in one account and the rest in the other account. (Assuming that the first account magically starts working.) If the old account remains dead and the new account works, well the problem has been fixed. If having two accounts seemed unbearably messy to you, you could move messages from the dead account to the working account and then delete the dead account.
