I need to move old emails, but they are deleted from Profile folder the first time I open Thunderbird.
I have a new computer running Windows 10. I'm trying to move my old Thunderbird files from a Window 7 machine. I installed the newest Thunderbird and followed the instructions for moving the files. They always worked before, but not this time.
I can copy the mail folder into my new profile, However, when I open Thunderbird the file folders appear for an instant and then disappear. They are also deleted from my profile.

where an account is IMAP, there is no reason to copy the mail as it will be redownloaded on contact with the server.
However what looks to me like is happening is you are not getting into contact with the server. New computer new firewall and anti virus. Both of which could be blocking Thunderbird reaching out for email, hence deleting because it can not sync.
Here's what I had to do:
Uninstall the latest version of Thunderbird. Manually edit the registry to remove all references to Thunderbird. Install an older version of Thunderbird--52.3.0 (32-bit), Then I could successfully import my past email records.

Like I said. Antivirus firewall problem. Going back a point version and having it work is about a 100% proof of that. The worst offender is Norton, but any anti virus firewall product can cause trouble.
