I'm setting up a new computer.

I already have multiple computers, with Firefox installed, and logged into my Firefox account to sync.

I can see the password on the existing computers through the Account Information in the Change Password area.

When I attempt to log into the Firefox account in a fresh copy of Firefox on the new computer, I get an Invalid Password message.

I've also noted that I haven't received the prompt for the Master Account Password on the old computer when opening Firefox, which I did have set on.

Any thoughts on what's going on with my account? I don't want to do a password reset and lose all the sync information stored there.

TIA

Make sure that both the username and password are correct. Sync identifies each system by a Device Name. Make sure it is different from the others.

It's an email address that's required to log into Firefox Sync, not a user name.

It and the password are correct. Checked and double checked.

Machine names are not the same.

I called for more help.

See if there are any sync logs. Type about:sync-log<enter> in the address bar.

Open the last file created and Copy its contents Now Paste it into this forum.

Can you login to this Firefox account via this URL with that computer?

more options

No, I can't log in there.

This is a disturbing situation. I am LOGGED IN to the Firefox account on the existing machine - three existing machines, in fact. I can see the logins in the last several weeks.

I have changed the display name, added a recovery address - I can do anything on the account EXCEPT change the password. When I attempt to enter the existing password it isn't recognized.

I KNOW I am providing the correct password. Inspecting the saved passwords on the logged in machine shows the same password I've been using to try and log in as the saved password for accounts.firefox.com.

I am not happy about this happening but I am coming to the thought that I should do a password reset and ensure the account is secured.

If you can't login to accounts.firefox.com then it is likely that you aren't using the correct password. There is normally no password for accounts.firefox.com stored in the Firefox Password Manager unless you have visited that website and stored this password.

Can't you login directly to accounts.firefox.com on those other devices as well?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

But if you have visited accounts.firefox.com, which I had (the site was listed in my sites visited), then it would have stored the password, wouldn't it.

I decided the risk that my account had somehow been compromised outweighed trying to work through this issue on the forum (and possibly allowing the Firefox team to learn something from this situation), and reset the password.
