I have a a couple of email accounts which I use Thunderbird to manage. I recently changed the login password for my Hotmail account via the Outlook website. However, when I open up Thunderbird it still shows and allows me to open new mails to this account. I have tested this by sending new mails from another account. These show up in the Hotmail inbox in Thunderbird and if I click on them they open. Thunderbird seems to still have full access to my account even though the password has been changed.

How does Thunderbird manage to do this, and if it's possible for Thunderbird to do it, can't others do the same thing, somehow bypassing the password?

About four or five hours later, Thunderbird is now showing that I need to enter the new password to access the Hotmail account.

Everything seems to be as expected now. But strange that the new password came into effect immediately on the webmail login, but took so long before it affected Thunderbird.
