I see the message I've quoted in the subject line "Transferring data from maps.googleapis.com..." in the status bar when I'm on the site of the public library near me. I am not doing anything with Google Maps. Google Maps is not open in another tab, I have closed Firefox and restarted since the last time I used Google Maps.

I wouldn't care if it didn't slow down Firefox. Sometimes it's stuck there for 30 seconds or more on an otherwise fast connection. Thanks.

Does the website of the mentioned public library make use of maps.googleapis.com in order to have a map showing its location, to be able to get directions to it, etc.? Could you name the public library and/or the website you are on? Then one could directly inspect the source of the website...

Hi, Patrick Weiden Thanks. Sure, no problem. Its Toronto Public Library at https://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/ Yes it does, probably, use Google Maps APIs. The "view on map" on this page, for example: (https://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/centennial/ ) has a link to Google Maps.

So even though I'm not using that function, it's slowing the site down??? Sounds like poor coding. I (used to) know a bit about web page construction, but less as less as the years go on. Len
