Hello sfhowes, Many thanks for your very detailed reply for my desktop icon question relevant to my windows 10 Lenovo G710 laptop. I realise I am appearing stupid, but I am finding the solution difficult to enact and very afraid of creating more problems than the one I am trying to solve. Daft am I not!!! Kindest regards

I think the risk of rebuilding the cache is very low. Perhaps you would find it easier to use the bat file here.
