Address bar bug after opening Firefox

more options

After opening a new window in Firefox, it automatically enters and selects everything in the address bar. this has been happening since I downloaded the latest update for Windows 10 (64-bit). I can't find any option to prevent this from happening. whatever is happening there, it's not useful to me.

As of a few hours ago, the new plan is to revert to the previous behavior sooner rather than later. The target release date for version 105.0.1 is October 4th.

Thank you for your feedback.

This was an intentional change in Firefox 105 that makes the cursor behavior in a new window and a new tab behavior consistent. Depending on how many times in your day you open a new window, and how you like to interact with your home page, it could be quite a few extra clicks (either in the page, or on the optional Home button for the toolbar).

Currently, it is estimated that there will be a user preference added to Firefox 107 to choose between placing the cursor in the address bar or in the page. Between now and then, it hasn't been decided whether to keep the change or roll it back.

Do you encounter this often enough that it makes sense to think about looking for a workaround?

well. this change is definitely disruptive. google is set as my homepage and I'm so used to being able to type my question right away, that this is rather bothersome. being able to choose where to place the cursor would definitely help a lot. I think it's a good idea to add this option with the next updates.

I think it's also worth mentioning that if I click on a website and select to open it in a new tab or new window, it doesn't place the cursor in the address bar. it only happens when I open a new tab or window directly without loading anything in it. the only exception to this is the homepage that is loaded automatically when opening a new window, so it does place the cursor in the address bar there.
