I've been using Thunderbird for over a year now (oh, how I miss Eudora!) and the one continual irritation I have is that if I reply to an email from my inbox (usual), it sends a copy to my inbox. When I send an original message, I have a copy saved to my sent folder on my email provider (Protonmail). I'd like copies of replies saved to the same place. I do NOT want them in my inbox, and the "Place replies in the folder of the message being replied to" box is unchecked.

Just as an aside, occasionally I'll want to see on my phone emails that I've sent from my computer. Of course, I don't have access to Thunderbird from my phone (and pretty sure I don't want it there either).

How do I fix this?

Check your 'copies&folders' pane and see if you have ticked the box to save replies in the folder of incoming message. Unticking that should resolve that issue.

For your phone, you need to have your account in thunderbird as IMAP, and then use same settings to set up a smartphone app identically.
