If ,with favorites, you mean the IE favorites then Firefox doesn't use those.

If you want to preserve those then make a backup copy of the Favorites folder in your Windows user account.
In that case you probably want to backup the Documents folder as well, so best is to backup your entire user account in Documents and Settings/<user> to make sure not to lose important files (e.g. mail).

  • C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

Go to: Control Panel > Folder Options > "View" tab > under "Hidden files and folders", select "Show hidden files and folders"
To see the file extensions of all files uncheck the box "Hide extensions for known file types"
