I haven't installed new extensions in a while so I don't think it's that. It only happens when I run a program in full screen mode.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

It's because of the AdBlock Plus extension, I disabled it, and the area has gone away.

I notice you have the extension afurladvisor. I have recently re-installed Hotspot Shield, then noticed this "AnchorFree URL Advisor" appeared in my add-ons. Anchor Free is the parent company of Hotspot Shield. If not Hotspot Shiled you may be running something else by Anchor Free.

When I ran Hotspot Shield to test it I also noticed a white area. Mine was much smaller and at the top of the screen. Since HSS is a free program they run ads on every accessed webpage, but I'm presuming that the fact that I have AdBlock Plus and run various GreaseMonkey scripts blanked out their ad display area. I tweaked something else (sorry, I don't recall what) and the box disappeared from the page displays, without my having to uninstall or disable AdBlock.

I should also mention that I am running two versions of FF, 3.6.19 and 5.0.1, installed in different directories. afurladvisor installed in 5.0.1 but not 3.6.19.

One way to find what program you're running that activates the white box is to go into Windows Task Manager Processes pane.
