Through a company IT rep, he helped to update my Adobe Flash Player already along with installing Firefox 3.6

Now why does the firefox claim "You need to upgrade your Adobe Flash Player to watch this video" when the Flash Player was already updated to the latest (i.e. attempt to view youtube videos for testing).

There are two different versions of Flash, the ActiveX version which is used by Internet Explorer and the Plugin version which most other browsers use, including Firefox. If both are installed, two versions Adobe Flash should appear in Add / Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel.

1.Download the Flash setup file from here:
Adobe Flash - Plugin version.
Save it to your Desktop.

2. Close Firefox using File > Exit
then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure firefox.exe is closed,
{XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC = Processes tab}

3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.

  • On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen).

It was Windows XP that both the Adobe & Firefox was installed into. Huh, to think adobe flash player is one & the same for all browsers, how naive of me. Anyways, thanks for the tip the-edmeister.

Done all this, uninstalled Adobe flash and installed the latest 10.3 version. Still cannot get any videos to play on Firefox. I am using Vista 64 bit and did the whole procedure as administrator.

THIS WORKED!!! On Vista and I ran it as Administrator. Prior to this, I brought up IE and made it my default browser and downloaded their version, etc etc, yesterday, which worked. Decided to give Firefox one more try.

Thanks!
