Have been using the Ububtu live cd for at least a month now while getting around to replacing failed hard disk and installing an OS. Never before today had any problem with youtube finding flash once the flashplugin-installer was installed, Today youtube reports that flash is needed. What I believe is a Firefox popup provides a button to install missing plugin, which offers three choices (adobe, swfdec, gnash). Choosing adobe results in message that it is already installed. Running Firefox 3.6.23+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.10.04.1.

cor-el,

Thanks, but, I'm not sure the referenced link applies.

Running the suggested command fails to find the default plugin (libnullplugin.so), and, therefore, to reveal the location of the plugin directory; although, an exit code of zero is returned. It seems that libnullplugin.so is not installed. Hence, my skepticism.

The situation at hand is the sudden failure of what had previously routinely succeeded.

Following up on your idea,

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo find / -name *flash* -print | grep '.so'

now finds (among others)

/usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so

And, going to youtube, it's working as usual. So, whatever gremlins were at work yesterday seem to be gone.

Thanks.
