ESET Smart Security caught the problem, alerted me, and recommended that I delete the object, which I did. I do not know what the object was or where it came from.

My post here was to find out how to report the threat to Firefox since it involved firefox.exe and wondered if there was any vulnerability there. Is this type of information valuable to Firefox?

The error was most likely a "false positive" related to a file contained in one of your extensions.

  • Remember that most security applications look for a pattern of characters in their Anti-virus/anti-spyware signature files and that can result in "false positive" reports which must be investigated by and corrected by the company producing the security application or the company producing the signatures.
  • If you quarantined the file (usually better than deleting, to avoid deleting an important OS file), you should be able to restore/un-quarantine it; see your instructions for your security application to do this.
  • If you deleted a file from an extension, the extension may no longer function properly.

You may have omitted some important information to determine what may be causing the error. In your post, you indicate the partial path "c:\Documents and Settings\admin\Application Data\...cache.js"; the "..." would show, if an extension, the extension name in the full path just prior to "cache.js".
