As stated in my question this just started happening recently. I click on a link in email or on a website and I get pop-ups. They start out looking like firefox popups - but they aren't. Some are for games - others give a list of other web sites to check for the subject of what I have clicked on. This is extremely annoying!!!! What do I do to stop this?

It sounds like your computer may be infected with some sort of a virus / Malware.

I suggest the following resources:

Is my Firefox problem a Result of Malware is a Mozilla Support article with some good tips on avoiding and fighting malware.

To double check your system is clean, do the following (Not official Mozilla advice, just good practice from personal experience)

Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Download and Run TDSSKiller http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363

Download, Install and run Microsoft Security Essentials http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials (not an official endorsement, but I personally recommend MSE as an awesome permanent anti-virus)

Double check for all Windows Updates.

Thank you very much for your time and advice! I was going to uninstall Firefox & try a clean install. When I went to do that I found a program called FREEWORKZ that i HAD NOT installed. That was one of the ads that kept popping up!! Imagine my surprise. I got rid of that & the problem seems to have stopped. I will be using your advice to download the malware programs. Thanks again.
