Setup Dell 3100 Windows XP Home SP3 1.5G Memory Malware anti-virus 1.62.0.1300 Firefox v14.0.1

History 1. I used to run Firefox. 2. Started getting huge memory usage problems at startup 3. Hell with it; uninstalled. 4. Used Chrome for a few months. Lame. 5. Today downloaded Firefox, installed. 6. Problems.

Problem 1. Startup 

     A.  Too slow
     B.  Too much CPU
     C.  Too much memory usage

2. Windows task manager reports 

    A.  At startup, Firefox immediately starts sucking resources
          1.  CPU - up to 50%
          2.  Memory - peaks at 411m
    B.   ffmpeg4(?) appears
          1.  Sometimes does whatever, quits.
          2.  Sometimes begins to absorb a lot of resources
               a.  A lot of memory (don't have a hard number)
               b.  Up to 50% of CPU
          3.  Always gone by end of startup
    C.  DATAMN~1
          1.  Always present
          2.  Absorbs a lot of resources
               a.  Peak memory 96m
               b.  Up to 50% of CPU

3. Pagesys disk runs at pureè speed 4. All add-ons disabled 5. Three minutes start to availability

Try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
