Left mouse pad not clicking/working after scrolling in firefox ,freezes this button and only right click will anywhere . Its almost as if the left button is frozen as sometimes when I move around the keypad I see the scroll button move up and down and I can not unclick it. Only restarting computer fixes issue.

The issue is only happening in firefox. I have been using opera with absolutely no touchpad issues. I love firefox and would love to use it but restarting my computer multiple times a day is not cutting it for me.

I have a dell xps 14z I am using firefox 15.0.1 .

Do you mean that you have two touchpads? That is unusual. Incidentally, a mouse pad is a special mat that has a surface that allows the mouse ball to roll rather than skidding.

Could it be that you have a stuck key on your keyboard? I have been told that a stuck Ctrl key can cause problems with scrolling.

No I mean that the two buttons below the track pad are causing the issues. So I will be using the touchpad to scroll and then I will go to left lick an item using the bottom right below my track pad similar to the left click on an actual mouse. It does not work. I am using a laptop and no keys are pressed in.

Are the drivers for the touchpad up to date? I cannot think of anything else that would cause a problem like that.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Try to modify the ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled pref on the about:config page from the default value -1 to 0 or 1 to see if that makes the scroll pad work better.
Close and restart Firefox after changing the ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled pref.

I have the same problem on win7 pro 64 bit, on an HP laptop with a built-in synaptics touch-pad mouse (driver 15.3.29.0, which is the most recent one supported by HP and Synaptics). Yes, all drivers and OS patches are up to date, as are the Firefox plugins (FF 19.0.2)...and this problem has persisted for over 9 months on my system.

Doesn't seem to matter what other applications I'm using, and once the left-mouse button is "locked up" the following occur in addition to the obvious navigation/usability issues:

  • windows' screen saver timeout is locked up as well
  • the synaptics pointing device utility will not start
  • explorer taskbar auto-hide function doesn't work (taskbar stays hidden all the time)
  • explorer may get confused about input focus across windows

I've done a lot of experimentation with this issue, and it is almost certainly an interaction with the Synaptics driver. External mice continue to work fine through all problems. If I want to give up the Synaptics features and run on a commodity mouse driver, all the symptoms go away.

There appear to be two work-arounds:

  1. put laptop in suspend, then resume (always works) OR
  2. kill the two FlashPlayerPlugin tasks (via Windows' Task Manager...sometimes works)

Note, sometimes just using windows-tab and the right-mouse button to change input focus can temporarily unlock the left-mouse button as well. But this may take 2 minutes or more, and only works occasionally.
