Firefox seems to prevent the Windows toolbar (at screen bottom) from minimizing, despite selecting "auto hide" from the Toolbars/properties menu. Any advice?

Thanks for the tip - can you tell me where that option is? I've gone through the Firefox Options menu, but can't find it. Same for the Windows Taskbar Properties.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: command+Shift+F).

Is the Firefox window maximized?

You can check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.

Just in case you are in full screen mode, try using the F11 key to switch to normal mode. (If that switches to full screen mode, use F11 to switch back.)

Normally Firefox behaves like any other Window. Although it isn't obvious whether this is caused by an add-on, or which one, you might want to try the standard diagnostic step of using Firefox's Safe Mode to see whether it is caused by a custom setting or add-on.

First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See Backing up your information. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)

Next, restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the Safe Mode dialog, do not check any boxes, just click "Continue in Safe Mode."

Then see whether Firefox behaves more normally.
