I followed the link from the add-ons manager to the plugins analyzer at https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ - it told me this:

QuickTime Plug-in 7.7.4The QuickTime Plugin allows you to view a wide variety of multimedia content in Web pages. For more information, visit the QuickTime Web site. vulnerable 7.7.4.0 Update Now

The update now button did not update the plugin, and did not take me to a page with any update links. It took me to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6151 which is a description of the update and the problems it solved. It does not provide a link to anything that updates the plugin. Please fix this.

QuickTime is owned by Apple.

I can't tell you why the Plugin Check Update button for your QuickTime 7.7.4 plugin didn't take you to the correct download page to get an updated version of QuickTime but took you to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6151 instead.

I already have the latest QuickTime 7.7.5 installed on my Windows 7 computer so I can't confirm what you reported. When I go to http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ and click the "Up to Date" link it takes me to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ where you can download the latest version.

I'll "escalate" this question to see if a Mozilla employee can help resolve this problem for users who visit the Mozilla PluginCheck website with outdated and vulnerable QuickTime versions.

You can also submit feedback to input.mozilla.org/feedback or file a bug report at bugzilla.mozilla.org under the Websites - plugins.mozilla.org component (you can use this form after registering at bugzilla).

The update may be major enough that, we need to show you what's changed before the update is processed. On the first line from that link, I can read the following: This update can be downloaded and installed using Software Update, or from the Apple Support website.' With that in mind, you'll need to pull up the software update program from apple or find it on their site.

In case anyone missed what I wrote above, you can go to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ to get the latest QuickTime version. Alternately, you can go to http://support.apple.com/downloads/#quicktime ...which links to QuickTime 7.7.5 for Windows

Like Andrew mentioned, you can also use Apple's Software Update program to update QuickTime. I did a search of Apple's site and here is what they say about Apple's Software Update program for Windows:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2305 Using Software Update for Windows to keep your Apple software up-to-date

Quote: To use Software Update for Windows, click the Start menu and select Apple Software Update. Available updates will be shown. Click Install to download and install them.

Note that on my Windows 7 PC, I had to go to the Start menu and open the "All Programs" list to find the "Apple Software Update" program shortcut.

Here's how I updated to QT 7.7.5 back in March (from my notes):

I opened QuickTime Player, then I went to Help -> Update Existing Software (which opens Apple Software Update).

These guys are awesome. Thank you for escalating, it looks like you have it all down. I filed a bug in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org and added a screenshot, but please also add the version of quicktime and screenshot for your computer to add more troubleshooting info https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1037743

I will need to meet the guys that maintain this page, this comes up often.
