The first time I click the plus sign to add a new tab on a fresh start of Firefox, it opens up a new window instead. After that, any new tabs I create go to the second window, even if I click it on the primary window. I can move tabs back to the primary window, but I'd rather not have to. I would like to use only one window, as I have a number of pinned tabs. This only started happening today.

I am on 32.0.3 for Windows 8.1.

It is possible that this first window is a pop-up type window.

Try to keep the newly window open and close the not working window and close and restart Firefox to see if this keeps working.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
