Hello,

I'm wondering if there is a way to add a "share" option to the download menu, either via configuration or via an existing extension.

My goal would be to have three options :

  • Open with
  • Save as
  • [NEW] Share

I often send saved PDFs that I download, so I'd like avoiding the hassle of "save as" then "open email / other communication tool" then "join file" and "send".

Is there any way to achieve this ?

Thanks in advance for any hint.

Hello,

There are extensions that can perform the sharing task for you. You can try them out:

You can search for many more on the Add-ons page and find one that suits your preferences.

As for Open With, you can change that in your settings:

  • Edit (or New Fx Menu) > Preferences > Applications

Look for Portable Document Format (PDF) and change its Action to "Always Ask" or another default.

There is a new "Share" button coming in Firefox 35. Don't know if that type of feature is available now via an add-on. See this Add-ons search for an add-on with that type of feature.

Hello,

Thanks for both answers.

@CoryMH : your proposals would let me share an URL, but not a file, if I understand correctly. The "Open with" trick would work but in an ideal world I'd like not to mess with the default app (or change it for only one time). Maybe I'm a bit picky here, that's true ;-)

@the-edmeister : thanks for the hint, I didn't know a new "share" button was under way. Unfortunately, it seems it's for sharing an URL too, not a file, as i can see here : http://www.askvg.com/download-mozilla-firefox-latest-nightly-version/ (update 69). Maybe it will be possible to tweak it the way I want but I doubt it for now, as it's for social sharing.
