I already posted on the first page of this thread that you should check for issues with the places.sqlite file. Did you miss this or didn't it work at the time?

After I updated to 36.0.1....I tried rename again and rename seems to have resolved. Don't know why now and not before. Will see if sorted 100% after more trial. So, do I retain sqliteold and new sqlite....?

Can you create a bookmark with the location set to that link in the Bookmarks Manager (Library)?

Did you check for problems with the places.sqlite database file?

Sorry I appear to have removed some of the text in my above reply by accident and I have corrected it.

You can open the Bookmarks Manager (Library) via the "Show your bookmarks" button that is next to the star on the Navigation Toolbar. You can create a new bookmark in the right pane via the right-click context menu. Then you can select that bookmark and check its properties in the details pane at the bottom right.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the places.sqlite file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.

You do not need to keep the older copies if the newly created copy works and you didn't lose bookmarks. You will lose history doing repairs to places.sqlite.

You can first try the Places Maintenance extension to see if that can repair the file or offers to restart Firefox to create a new copy of places.sqlite.

Well, a new places.sqlite was created after renaming. I have access to Bookmarks from places.sqliteold ... but, Icons have not refreshed. But, I suspect issue is sorted because url's that would not Bookmark ... now, go to Bookmark. Am I accessing old Bookmarks from renamed places or did Bookmarks migrate over to newly created places. Thereby allowing me to delete renamed places. I can leave both. Now, that Bookmarks work for apparently all url's. No biggy leaving places.sqliteold in default profile.

( History not a concern. I delete History upon close )

When you delete or rename places.sqlite then Firefox will create a new file and will try to rebuild the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder and won't use other copies of places.sqlite, so you do not need to keep those and you can delete them.

So, should I add Places Maintenance. It's new to me ... ? Isn't places maintenance run as required. I'm not loosing Bookmarks. I was just was not able to Bookmark certain url's. I have no idea what was the issue with those certain url's. Is there a way to refresh the Bookmark Icons that were lost in the new places file.

The Places Maintenance extension is a special extension that can run some checks on the places.sqlite database and is sometimes, but not always, able to repair the file if errors are found, so you do not have to do that yourself. It doesn't hurt to try the PM extension first as it will work in a lot of cases.

Well, Bookmarks broken again....

May have something to do with SBoxie or Shadow Defender.

I do allow SBoxie direct access to Firefox bookmarks and I do commit via Shadow Defender places.sqlite....

that's all I know...something is corrupting place.sqlite folder and SBoxie - Shadow Defender both interact with place.sqlite

any thoughts  ?

Thanks
