How to remove Deals4u Firefox on Ubuntu

more options

it seems that my Firefox has been infected by the Deals4u malware. It appears to be contained in only Firefox since I'm running Xubuntu it is extremely unlikely that the 'system" is infected. I have tried other browsers using the same pages and there are no signs of infection.

I'm running Firefox 39.0.3 Mozilla Firefox for Ubiuntu canonical - 1.0 on Xubuntu 14.04.

All the support suggestions are for Windows or Macs (no surprise there), but, there doesn't appear to be any talk about this being in the browser. I did check my Add-Ons and didn't see anything there (I have not tried going to about:config as I'm not sure what to look for).

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions as to hos to remove this?

Thanks!

If it comes back, I'd check the Add-ons page for any unknown extensions. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or, if possible, remove). Please make a note of the exact name of the varmint for searching purposes.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
