hi, in case you're an avast user, please disable https scanning within avast:

1. Open the Avast dashboard on the affected system.
2. Select Settings from the left sidebar menu.
3. Switch to Active Protection.
4. Click on Customize next to Web Shield.
5. Uncheck the "Enable HTTPS Scanning" option and click ok.

I did this, and was given a "This Connection is Untrusted" warning when accessing google.com.

this problem might also be happening in accounts restricted by microsoft family parental controls. you could turn that off for your account like described at: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/turn-off-microsoft-family-settings

in case you want to have it on by intention, you'd need to some configuration work in firefox, and install the certificate of ms family safety that is getting used to intercept secure connections into the browser's trust store. open this link in firefox - then a dialog about adding a cert should display. please check the box to Trust this CA to identify web sites & confirm the change.

alternatively you could also try the manual steps described at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2965142 in the section about firefox.

ok, then in order to know what's really going on we probably need more information about the issuer of the failing certificate. please proceed like this: enter chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul into the location bar and in the page that opens, set the server location to "https://www.google.com" in order to retrieve and view the certificate like shown in the screenshot. then please report back with the data of the issued by section of the certificate viewer. thank you!

After trying to retrieve the certificate, it said "No Information Available Unable to obtain identification status for this site."

I have tried Google, Youtube, and Yahoo(.com), and have been given the same response.

is it possible to click on the "view" button in this case nevertheless?

After many long miles of traveling (or from work to the fridge to the computer, naturally), I have switched my account to a local account. By doing that, something with my Microsoft account must've been shut out, allowing me to access these HTTP websties.
