How can I get rid of the period that appears at the start of the subject field ?

Every email that I receive, and every email that I send has a dot or period that appears at the start of the subject field, for example: ".New Story on Blog".

It's distracting and annoying.

I can't delete it or copy it, so I suspect it's not really there but a bug in someone's code.

Can someone get rid of it, please ?
