For the last two days, I can't get messages. The following error message appears: "The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server pop3.tiscali.co.uk responded: cannot open file '/nfs2/mailgb/mail_29/27/12/a.lockley%tiscali.co.uk/0A70004056E64E83.msg' errno 2, file does not exist". There are apparently 86 messages waiting to be downloaded and more are arriving steadily

Sounds like there may be a log jam caused by either the webmail spam folder or oldest email not yet downloaded.

Try this: Logon to webmail account via a browser. Empty the server 'spam' folder. In Thunderbird retry to Get Messages.

If still a problem: Access webmail. Read oldest but not yet downloaded email. Either delete it or move to another folder. In Thunderbird retry to Get Messages.
