firefox 44 creates new cookies.sqlite file when it starts instead of opening the existing file.
I have a lot of preferences stored in the cookies.sqlite file. After downloading version 44.0.1 my file disappeared and I had to restore my old one. I discovered that every time I started firefox the same thing happened (i.e. a new empty cookies file is created). Version 44.0.2 has not fixed this problem so I am still running firefox 43.

What kind of preferences are you talking about?
The cookies.sqlite file only stores cookies.
Are you sure that the restored file doesn't have a hidden file extension appended?
You can check the type in the properties via the right-click context menu to make sure that the type is SQLite.
There is a web site that allows me to customize its display and for some reason stores the settings in the cookies.sqlite file. It's kind of a pain to set up so I hate when I have to do it again (a few times I allowed a privacy program to clean up my cookies before I realized those settings were in the cookies file). I am positive they are in this file because when I restore the cookies.sqlite file from backup my settings are restored. Thanks for the reply.
One more thing. Even if this file only had cookies it still wouldn't make sense for Firefox to create a new one on startup.
