I have long been using the in-built PDF reader of Firefox on my Windows 7 64-bit laptop. But since yesterday, whenever I try to open a PDF file, instead of the opening the file, the browser just pops-up the dialog box asking me whether to open the file or save it. And it keeps going on and on.

Once I checked the "Do this automatically for files like this from now on" check box and chose the option of "Open with.. Firefox", and the browser went into indefinite loop of opening new tabs and showing me the same dialog box again and again.

Anyone knows how I can fix this?

You can check the pdfjs.disabled pref on the about:config page to see if it is still false. See also plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Try to rename/remove the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all file actions.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:
