How do I get an answer to a question I have asked and have had no useful answer.

more options

The questoin I asked was - when I start Firefox I get the message "well this is embarrassing. Firefox is having problems recovering your windows and tabs" It then list the tabs and offers to resore them - which it does if I hit restore. I have tried all the solotions offered on thios page to resolve the problem but it still does this when the computer is re-booted. My start up option is "show my home page" and if I want the last tabs I hit restore. Why do I get this message?

Typically that happens after Firefox has crashed twice in quick succession.

Please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

There are other things that need attention.

The System Details List shows that you have multiple Flash plugins.

  1. Shockwave Flash 20.0 r0
  2. Shockwave Flash 21.0 r0

You can find the installation path of all plugins on the about:plugins page.

You can check the Flash player installation folder for multiple Flash player plugins and remove older version(s) of the plugin (NPSWF32) and possibly (re)install the latest Flash player.

  • (32 bit Windows) C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\
  • (64 bit Windows) C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\

Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

  • "3-bar" menu button > Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File > Exit
  • Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File > Quit

Whoops, I see this was already covered.

How do you usually close Firefox? If you have been using the "red X" button, try using the menu instead, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
  • (menu bar - tap Alt to activate) File > Exit

When you use Exit, Firefox takes time to clean up various files and shut down properly. On the other hand, using the red X button may cause Windows to send sequential "close Window" commands to Firefox and if Firefox is taking too long, kill the Firefox process. So that creates a higher risk of starting Firefox up in a "crashed" condition.
