Re: TABS - Warn me when closing multiple tabs

"Warn me when closing multiple tabs" - IS UNCHECKED - yet I am CONSTANTLY presented with the warning whenever I attempt to "Close Tabs to the Right or "Close Other Tabs".

How do I make this WORK ? - instead of constantly badgering me with the unwanted warnings from the option which I have CHOSEN (by selection) to manage appropriately - (AS offered by Firefox. TABS - Warn me when closing multiple tabs). It is UN-checked, yet it STILL presents the warnings.

Whoops, this solution was already provided above. Never mind!

Hi soon2beam, take a look here:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste warn and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.tabs.warnOnClose preference to switch the value from true to false -- this prevents the warning when you close a window with multiple tabs; if you see a blank checkbox on the Options page, General panel, then you already have this set to false

(4) Double-click the browser.tabs.warnOnCloseOtherTabs preference to switch the value from true to false -- this is the one that's relevant to closing tabs to the right, etc., there's no user interface for this preference that I'm aware of

I’m afraid this is related to what is set in "When Firefox starts", and there is some intentional behavior involved. Can you please have a look at bug 419009 for the discussion, thoughts, arguments and a workaround?

This response is meaningless to me. I am no programmer - I'm just seeking to get the setting to word - as - it is described:

Re: TABS - Warns me when closing multiple tabs

You don’t need to be a programmer to be able to read comment 142 in the link above like intended, but my answer addresses a slightly but common other issue, and I seem to have overlooked the way you closed the window/tabs.

The way the "Warn me when closing multiple tabs" option you are referring to works is that it enables you to make Firefox ask for confirmation again after you did not uncheck "Warn me when I attempt to close multiple tabs" when closing a browser window containing multiple tabs. The option itself will therefore only be visible in Options if you unchecked that box in the warning dialog. (See bug 1063625 for reference.)

This is unrelated to right-clicking a tab and choosing "Close Tabs to the Right" or "Close Other Tabs".These dialogs therefore work as they should, but if you do not want to see them like you described, you could do the following:

  • Open about:config in the location bar
  • Accept the warning
  • Type browser.tabs.warnOnCloseOtherTabs in the Search field
  • Double-click this preference, or right-click it and choose Toggle, to set it to false

Hi   !
So often I absent-mindedly almost closed multiple tabs and   boy   am I glad I get this warning  !
Why are you letting this bother you so much   ?
Wouldn't you rather want to be safe than sorry   ?
You seem adamant to do this;   I just hope you won't regret it.
Whatever you decide:   good luck   !

This does not address the issue - it merely tells me the responder's reason for not wanting to use this feature. This is a waste of my time and does not answer the question. Have a nice day.

Since your question had already been adequately answered by  jscher,   I was hoping you wouldn't mind my being curious.
I apologize for wasting your time.
