Full Screen in Search Mode for Thunderbird 38.+ serious problem, OK in 31.6.0 Mac OS 10.11.6
I have asked this before, but, the answer wasn't helpful. n versions 38. and up, under Mac OS 10.11.6 starting search (Command Shift F) produces a search window which is full screen and makes the toolbar and dock inaccessible. You can get out of it via ESC, however, then you need to start a new search window the next time you need to search. Disabling all the plugins I could find did not solve the problem. Starting in Safe Mode solves the problem, but, also kills the dictionary. I reinstalled 31.6.0, and, the Search window now behaves correctly, NOT as a full screen, and is resizable and can be moved around. And, I do not need to run in Safe Mode. ( don't have time to go through all the backed up versions and see which ones work..) Please fix this, I need the search function. Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a preferences file that I need to reset? Oh, it was suggested that I disbable all addins and re-add them one at a time, I had hoped for a more sensible suggestion than this.. (how about doing a binary chip, LOL)

I would be surprised if an add-on caused this trouble. But Safe Mode disables other features such as changes to layout. I think there is a file that stores window sizes that has become corrupt.
Locate your profile, close Thunderbird and try deleting, moving or renaming xulstore. json.

If this doesn't work out then we may resort to asking you to work through your add-ons. If you know about binary chop then by all means use it. But for many of our users, we'd have to explain the concept, describe a method of working and even then, some would have trouble applying it methodically.

Zenos, this worked, and, many many thanks.. I must say I didn't feel very good continuing to use 31.6! Binary chop? Surely all digital natives know about this? I think I first heard about it in 1968 from my boss, Cliff Bellamy.. http://www.adm.monash.edu.au/records-archives/archives/foundation/bellamy.html Anyway, I really appreciate your help.. I have saved a good copy of xulstore.json and locked it! Regards Karl Reed
