Hi,

I'd like to block specific images, on specific sites, so I can load the sites without the images. I can use Kill Button to remove the images, but I would prefer not to load them.

P.S. I tried searching, but even Advanced Search took "turn" or "off" as synonyms of block.

There probably are a lot of add-ons that address this, but I'll mention one built-in option: site permissions.

If you open the Page Info dialog for any page, then the Media tab, then click an image in the (sometimes long) list, you'll see some information about the image AND a checkbox to "Block images from" and the base host name of the site that image was served from. A quick way to get to this panel is to right-click (on a one-button mouse, Ctrl+click) an image and choose View Image Info. (Example screenshot attached.)

Now, this is somewhat different from what you asked. Let's say I have a site on my server, but it displays images from my server AND two other servers. In order to never see images on my site, you need to block all three image servers. And that will apply on other sites, so if a different site uses one of those image servers, some images will be missing from its pages.

I don't know if that's helpful, but you could give it a try.

Keep in mind that it may not be easy to remember from what websites you are blocking images and you might lose important data (icons). A block is always all or nothing. With some specific CSS rules in userContent.css you can prevent Firefox from displaying specific images, but the images will still be retrieved unless you use a specific content blocker.

I used to have an add-on that I could right click and delete an image even in my Yahoo email account. Now I can't even find that.

Sorry but this is the worst version of Firefox that I'd ever had. My tabs are above my Toolbar and is driving me nuts as well as these image issues.

Hi vegaspatt, what was the add-on for deleting images? You can look up disabled Legacy extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then above the list on the right side, look for a link to show legacy extensions. There may also be a button to search for an alternative

The position of tabs can be changed using a custom style rule. Please check my site here for an example: https://www.userchrome.org/what-is-userchrome-css.html#movetabbar

jscher, I continue to have issues on the simplest things. I could NOT the tab for disabled Legacy extensions. I honestly tried everything to no avail. I used to be able to right click and there was a context menu that said block Flash? and images. I just want that Add-on back. Don't know why I can't pull up Legacy item.

I think that at one time I had an issue with the THREE bar menu. This just get worse all the time.

Hi vegaspatt, I am attaching a screenshot of the link I think you normally would see. However, this is from Firefox 59 (Nightly test version), so Firefox 57 might look a little different.

If you don't have any disabled/legacy extensions, is it possible that your Firefox performed a Refresh? The telltale sign is the appearance of an Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop. In that case, it may be a little harder to figure out what add-on you were using before.

I've tried so many extensions and I guess now I've messed up everything. Can't see your screenshot, either here or in my email account.

If you think the problem is caused by an extension, you can go back to the Add-ons page and disable or remove all the non-essential ones. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Everything is optional

Oh wait, I didn't attach the image? Here it is.

Sorry, doing too many things at once.

jscher, I looked at your screen shot but still could not view Legacy Extensions. I even searched for it. Nothing.

I finally disabled all blockers and now have one called Yahoo Mail Hide. So far it's doing the trick in my email account. Those other blockers were even blocking stuff on my Facebook Account.

Guess I'll just leave things alone for awhile.

Just wish I was smart enough to move my tabs back where they used to be. Don't know why Firefox Version 57 thinks this was an improvement. I do not like it. Just wish they had left things alone.

Thanks for all your help. I so appreciate it. I really liked Theme and Font Changer. But that's gone also.
