Why doesn't moz-extension://71c358b5-ab5d-4225-b461-14996f5ea96c work anymore?
With recent version release(s) of FF (approximately starting with v55; currently I'm running v57.0.2 / 64-bit), my Xmarks Bookmarks Synchronizer add-on, known to Mozilla as "moz-extension://71c358b5-ab5d-4225-b461-14996f5ea96c", hasn't been Functional whatsoever,...it simply Hangs. And if I let FF run long enough, additional child processes of this particular add-on spawn ...all of which also Fail. Help!

Did you remove and reinstall the Addon to see if this was a Addon problem itself?
Here are your choices; 1) Contact its support and ask if they will update 2) Find a replacement 3) Downgrade to a prior Firefox 4) Do without
Which prior version of FF?
It looks like your Extension is available : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/xmarks-sync/

Going back : unfortunately 56.0.2 and below is no longer safe to use for every day use do to secuity issues, but 52.5.2 ESR is. It will continue to get security updates until May 2018, and you can download and install it from this page: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/ Note : Legacy Extensions will be deleted or removed in any version update after May 2018.
You should make a backup of your Profile before going back and just because: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles
