Thunderbird is a great program. The issue I have is while thinking I am using the Quick Filter to search my inbox, I frequently hit the letter "a" only to have message(s) moved to my archive folder by accident. I realize this is not really a problem with the program, but if the message archive functionality could be altered either under the advanced configuration settings or add either the Shift+ or Ctrl+ or Alt+ functionality to it would be nice.

I appreciate the consideration, J

Try tbkeys-lite, and unset the 'a' key or perhaps make Alt+x the shortcut for Archive. The add-on sets 'a' by default as Reply All, which is probably less trouble than Archive.
