Firefox is running "stealth" does not appear on the desktop or in Task Manager, but "WinPatrol" shows it as an active task.
same problem with Safari and IE#8, none showing on the desktop when running. have uninstalled & re-installed all to no avail. replaced IE#8 with IE#9 and it now runs correctly.

Thanks for the ref to that excellent article. I didn't mention I was suspicious from the start and ran malware/virus det immediately, to date I've randomly run 5 diff det programs with no indication, but still suspicious! Am slowly working on items listed in art. Thanks again mcels
