EVer since updating to version 5.0 I get many "not responding" messages that hang up Firefox. Often now I get Norton Security messages warning that Firefox is hogging both CPU and memory. My PC has 2 gb of memory. What's going on?

Ever since upgrading to version 5.0. I often get "not responding," essentially hanging up my PC. When I finally get get in a click of the mouse, it incapacitates my PC with more "not responding" messages. I even get messages from Norton Security that Firefox is hogging memory and cpu resources. My PC has 2 gb of memory. I ran Vista home version on my Dell Inspiron 530.
