How do I download update 3.6.23 when it tells me that I do not have systems permission to install it?

Whenever I try to download Security & Stability Update 3.6.23 a popup tells me that I do not have systems permission to install it and that I should contact systems administrator to do so. I am the sole owner and user of this machine. I keep getting notices that I should download this program. I have downloaded Firefox 7.01 okay. This is becoming very frustrating as none of your Firefox Help articles seem to cover this problem.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.
