Has anyone noticed that the "Remove Bookmark" button is now just a blank rectangle on FF8 Windows? I haven't checked to see if this is the case on OS X yet.

When clicking on the star to bring up the bookmark dialogue box, what normally appeared as a box labeled "Remove Bookmark" is now a blank rectangle.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Not here, do you have a theme installed for Firefox.

Fx 8.0, Windows 7, "Add Bookmark to Here2" extension does not change colors

You are definitely using themes, whether a theme, a persona (lightweight theme) or a CSS styling such as using the "Stylish" extension and styles, the "ChromEdit Plus" extension, a theme in an extension, or userChrome.css itself.

I can see see one at the top of your window what is probably a "Persona", and I can see that your dialog color is different. Personas are limited lightweight themes so would not be the problem.

Try

  1. View ("Alt+V") > Page Style > Basic Page Style
  2. Disabling "Stylish" extension at its toolbar button, if that fixes the problem you will next have to find out which style is causing the problem.
  3. Disabling an extension, looks like you have "Add Bookmark Here2" extension or something to improve the havoc wrecked on the bookmarks dialog and get back keyword in the dialog. I use that extension without any problem, and as far a the dialog part goes could make most of the changes shown in your image with a style in profiles where I have limited extensions.

I only had a theme running when I took the screenshot. I tested this with both the default as well as custom themes and got the same result. Disabling personas made no difference as well. Thanks for the advice on safe mode, I forgot about this feature. I ran FF with all add-ons disabled, saw that the "Remove Bookmark" button appeared as it should, then began the tedious process of going through each extension (I have a lot!). The culprit turned out to be "Evernote Web Clipper...", go figure. I disabled this extension and will wait for an update. Thanks again!

Did you verify the problem comes back if you reenable the extension, if so,

  • mark Cor-els reply accordingly
  • notify Evernote support that is too serious to leave it go

I cringe when I see a 1.8MB extension, no way is that extension going into my Firefox. I do notice that I have EvernoteClipper.exe *32 running along with evernote.exe -- the only thing that I am aware of missing is the ability to reference back to the content source automatically from Evernote (at least I think that is available) -- but I'm not about to test it, Might try it someday on another profile.

I re-enabled the extension and the "Remove Bookmark" feature worked. The extension was not worth the trouble (couldn't select option to send to Evernote web or desktop) so I just removed it anyway. Thanks for all of your help! I really appreciate it.
