I cannot seem to upgrade Firebox
Every time I start up Firefox, I get a message that I am not on the latest version....SO - I click on upgrade I click on download I get a message, "Do you want to run this file?" I click on the setup wizard I get a message, "Firefox must be closed to proceed with the installation" That's when I hit a brick wall. A message always comes in, "Are you sure you want to quit the setup?" So, how exactly am I able to upgrade??

Make sure Firefox is closed before you run the installation. If it is and you still get the message, right-click on your Windows taskbar and select Start Task Manager. In the Processes tab, look for an instance of Firefox. If you see one, right-click and then select End Process. Then uninstall the old version before installing the new version. Then come back and tell us how you fared.

I have a problem very similar to sgtschenk's. I, too, am unable to upgrade from v. 3.5.3 of Firefox. Partway through the Install Wizard (my OS is Windows XP Pro, v. 2002, sp 3), I get a message "Your computer needs to be restarted to complete a previous upgrade. Would you like to reboot now?" If I click on "No", I am back to square one and the same thing happens all over again. If I click on "Yes", I am back to square one and the same thing happens all over again after the reboot. I have tried sctl's suggestions to no avail. With Firefox closed, there don't seem to be any Firefox-related processes running when I check with Task Manager (unless I'm not recognizing them). Also, when I try to uninstall v. 3.5.3, I get the same message about needing to restart to complete a previous upgrade; and the same loop occurs. Any further insight or suggestions would be much appreciated!

Delete the files in:
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox)
Download a fresh copy of Firefox for installation.
Uninstall your current Firefox version before installing but don't remove your profile data when you uninstall Firefox (do not select to remove personal data) or you will lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder. Remove the program folder for Firefox as well.
Do a clean reinstall as an administrator. See:
