Since new versions of the notification app "Growl" for Mac OS which is used by Firefox, are not available for free, I want to know if Firefox will still use Growl in the future - Firefox is open source, Growl now proprietary, does this lead to problems?

This is a know issue with registering with Growl 1.3. I think it's being worked on for the next version of Firefox.
