After virus problem which would not let all parts of the browser page open, I downloaded Firefox from another browser and opened it to install.

Firefox now asks permission to open each time I click the icon. I have shut off the computer and on several times. I then re-installed the browser but still it asks permission to open.

It seems to work again but can I get rid of opening permission request please? I may have 2 versions of the browser in the computer or the new program did not replace the old?

If I uninstall the program will I lose my bookmarks? Please can you help?

Mozilla Firefox stores all your personal settings, such as bookmarks, passwords and extensions, in a profile folder on your computer

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:
      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

Please report back to see if this helped you!

Thank you.

Check that Firefox isn't set to run as Administrator.
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

Hello iamjayakumars and cor-el

Thank you for your suggestions . I looked under both C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox and C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox but could not find the Firefox installation folder ??

I right clicked the Firefox icon - properties -Compatibility Tab and discovered that it had been ticked for Windows XP (service pack 3) . My system is windows 7. But when I un-ticked the box ..Firefox presented itself with the faulty webpage -most blacked out - being my original problem. When I ticked the box , Monzilla was working again but asking for permission to open.

The program was not running as Administrator (as not ticked)

Any further ideas please ? Thank you for trying Best regards Samuel
