A few days ago Firefox 25.1 upgraded to 26 and since then the the entire text of results I get when searching with Google blurs and trembles when I move the mouse over the result page. I cannot read more than a few words, the rest becomes distorted. If I somehow manage to open a link, the text inside the link is distorted too. I uninstalled v.26, would like to have v. 25.1 back but don't have its exe. file in my computer and can't find a place to download it. At this stage I installed 6.0.2 - the only exe. file I have but when I agreed to upgrade to 12 (I think), FIrefox stopped starting. So I uninstalled again and again installed the old version...

First, try disabling Firefox's use of hardware acceleration for graphics. This works around compatibility problems that can arise when your graphics card driver software is updated, replaced, or rolled back.

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"

This will take effect when you exit and restart Firefox.

You can get a fresh Firefox 26 installer from this page: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

Before reinstalling Firefox 26, could you make a backup of your settings folder? You can just copy the entire folder somewhere for safekeeping. Hopefully you won't need it, but just in case.

To open your settings folder (your Firefox profile folder), either:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

Click the "Show Folder" button (or for old versions of Firefox, maybe "Open Containing Folder") and Windows Explorer will display your current settings files. I recommend backing up at least the bookmarkbackups folder, and more if you can. You may want to exit Firefox and allow it finish updating files that are in use before copying.
