We have two accounts setup on Tbird. my wife began getting authentication failed from Verizon about two weeks ago, my account is working fine. she is able to access thru Verizon webmail and thru her iPhone with same password. the only place the password is failing is on Tbird. Verizon updates were made on both accounts and both accounts are set up the same way. These accounts have been setup for 3 years and worked with no problems until the last two weeks.

what anti virus?

If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.
