I create a new event to add to Lightening and Google calendar. Participants receive invitation with .ics attachment. Thunderbird will not open .ICS attachment. What is required for Thunderbird to do so. Thunderbird is version 24.5.0.

Maybe I did not explain the problem clearly. In Thunderbird inbox I receive a calendar notice with an attached .ics file. I try to open the attachment and receive message stating Thunderbird can not open it. Is there a pug-in or add-on that will allow Thunderbird to open .ics attachments?

Save the attachment to disk first, and then follow the steps as explained above.
