Transfer browsing history to new computer
I currently use the latest version of Firefox on a Windows 7 laptop and have done for several years. I'm about to move to a new Windows 8 laptop. I know how to transfer my bookmarks, profile etc.
But I'm worried about losing my browsing history. Specifically, I'm worried about losing particular 'non-bookmarks' that I use to navigate the web by just typing the first few letters of into the address bar.
For example, if I type 'M' the first suggestion is MemoToMe, the memo service I use. If I type 'W' it takes me to my webmail service. Some of the longer ones are for quite complex URLs that I haven't memorised but just access by typing in a keyword. I'd hate to lose this.
Is there a way to transfer this functionality to the new laptop? I've heard that copying over the places.sqlite file might do this but would welcome some advice.

Yes, the places.sqlite file in your profile folder stores both your bookmarks and history. So as long as you have a backup copy of the entire profile folder — made while Firefox is closed — you shouldn't have any issues.
If you'd like some extra insurance, you can additionally export your profile data with the FEBE add-on.
