Hi. I was downloading some game roms from various sites last night and today when I looked at the download que in firefox I noticed that there are a bunch of downloads that I didn't start all starting at exactly 2:55 am. I'm dealing with very limited HD space right now so they all failed but I fear I've been hacked or something. It's like someone saw what I was up to and then added their suggestions to the list. I'm not sure what's happened or what to do but it's got me worried. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi darebear999,

Thank you for your question. I understand that you have questions about downloads from the early morning that you did not click start for. There are event logs in Mac that can be seen in About this Mac, but the only logs for downloads in Firefox is in the Event History.

You can check the browsing history to see what pages were accessed at the same time as the download. The add on cache viewer shows all the stored history of Firefox profiles as well.

There are also third party solutions to view download events in the Mac OS, but I cannot recommend them here.

I used the downloads found in the tools menu to see what's downloading(ed). It opens up window called library which contains submenus of history and downloads. There's nothing out of the ordinary in the history but I'm still at odds to explain where they came from.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
