hotmail errors
This is getting painful.
I just received this:
[quote] Het STAT-commando had geen succes. Fout bij verkrijgen van berichtnummers en -formaten. Mailserver pop-mail.outlook.com antwoordde: Exceeded the login limit for a 15 minute period. Reduce the frequency of requests to the POP3 server. /quote
So? Huh? Now? Is this the reason why deleted mail is constantly coming back into the program? (When I delete mail, the next time the program requests mail, the deleted mail is downloaded again, and marked unread)
Chosen solution
That message: "Exceeded the login limit for a 15 minute period. Reduce the frequency of requests to the POP3 server." is from THE SERVER. Go argue this with Microsoft.

The error is simply because you have set Thunderbird to check for mail more frequently that the outlook terms of service allow.
Tools menu (Alt+T) > Account settings > server settings and change the frequency as required by outlook.com top 15 minute or more.
The other error may be related but I doubt it. That sounds like anti virus chopping the connection when it thinks it is done getting mails so Thunderbird does not get the sign off information. Disable email scanning in your anti virus and see if that helps.
Neither I am afraid.
Sophos is (seems) configured to NOT scan email. And a 5 minute interval for mail checks is legal :)
Either change the setting to comply with the requirement or put up with the errors, it is fairly simple really.
I have Zero interest in what you have to say is legal or debating the issue. The server at outlook is rejecting your login attempt with the error message telling you why. You don't like it rejecting your attempts take it up with Microsoft, it is their server and their policy.
A good diagnostic is to restart your operating system in safe mode with networking and see if that changes the symptom. (It will not stop the rejection of login attempts)
Restart the operating system in safe mode with Networking. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, OSX
- If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.
The error was a once-hickup. I am not debating whether a 5 minute window is "legal", I am assuming it should be possible. The setting is now at 5 minutes. And I assume this is also responsible for the re-apearing email.
I receive mail at 0:00 I locally delete mail at 0:01 Thunderbird pulls for new mail at 0:05 and discoveres mail that is on the server, but not on my system downloads the mail marks it is deleted on the server
I understand this is utopia and I am sure the solution to this problem is not nearly as simple. But is [i]is/i a problem.
Is the above example feasable? And possible a reason for the "returning mail" bug / error?
so... euhm... it happened again... time is set to 10 minutes which in email words is eternity! And I still get deleted mails back in the program.

Let me rephrase the question: I need an email program for dummies. Which is advisable? Thunderbird is way, way, way, way too difficult, too large, too complicated, too bugged.

sigh. yup. ofcourse. It is set to 10 minutes. But its "the other guys fault". Always. Typical behavior for Microsoft.... oh wait, this is a mozilla problem.....
It is from THE SERVER.
I suggest you try another email client. The server will say exactly the same.
